Do these things in the prediabetes stage to easily control blood sugar!

Diabetes is something that everyone is familiar with, especially as the incidence of diabetes has been increasing due to changes in diet and lifestyle.
However, in addition to diabetes patients, there is a considerable number of people whose blood sugar levels are elevated. This stage, where blood sugar levels exceed normal but do not meet the diagnostic criteria for diabetes, is called 'prediabetes.'
For many people, they are unaware of the existence of prediabetes, thinking that their blood sugar is just slightly high and feeling that they are far from diabetes!
Little do they know that if this period is not controlled in a timely manner, it is very likely to develop into diabetes. At that time, they will have to face lifelong medication and long-term blood sugar control.

How to determine prediabetes?

Prediabetes is a state of abnormal blood sugar, generally characterized by two conditions:
One is abnormal fasting blood sugar, ranging from 5.6mmol/L to 6.9mmol/L, which is also called 'impaired fasting glucose.'
The other is normal fasting blood sugar, but elevated postprandial blood sugar, ranging from 7.8mmol/L to 11.1mmol/L, which is also called 'impaired glucose tolerance.'
If you meet any of the above two conditions, it indicates that you are only 'one step away' from diabetes!
Being in the prediabetes stage can be described as taking one step forward into a deep abyss, and one step back into a flat plain. This stage is very important, because prediabetes can be 'reversed' through active intervention. However, many people are unaware of or do not realize the importance of this stage, allowing prediabetes to quietly 'slip away'...

How can one 'reverse' prediabetes?

The so-called 'reversal' means that patients in the prediabetes stage can achieve the goal of easily controlling blood sugar by changing unhealthy lifestyles, such as adjusting their diet, increasing exercise, losing weight, quitting smoking, and other changes.

  • Healthy diet. Eat more low-sugar fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Ensure food diversity to achieve goals while maintaining taste and nutrition.

  • More exercise. Based on your current level of exercise, strive to increase it a little every day. If you are often sitting throughout the day, you can set an alarm to remind yourself to stretch and walk around every hour. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week, such as jogging, swimming, or cycling.

  • Lose excess weight. If you are overweight, aim to lose 5% to 7% of your body weight (for example, if you weigh 91 kg, you should aim to lose about 6.4 kg), which can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

  • Quit smoking. Smoking increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In addition, it also increases the risk of heart disease and other diabetes-related complications. Whether you are in the prediabetes stage or not, you must quit smoking!!!

  • Medication treatment as needed. If the risk of developing diabetes is relatively high, doctors may recommend medication to help lower blood sugar. Additionally, based on physical conditions, doctors may prescribe medications to control cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.

Prediabetes is a critical period. Once you find yourself in the prediabetes stage, you must seize this opportunity to manage it properly and stay away from diabetes!
