Prevent premature rupture of membranes and smoothly go through the pregnancy and childbirth period.
We all know that after pregnancy, the fetus grows slowly in the amniotic membrane. During this process, sometimes premature rupture of membranes occurs, which is commonly known as water breaking! Premature rupture of membranes is a common complication during the perinatal period, which can lead to increased rates of preterm birth, increased perinatal mortality, and higher rates of intrauterine infections and postpartum infections. Today, let's learn more about it together.

We all know that after pregnancy, the fetus grows slowly in the amniotic membrane. During this process, sometimes premature rupture of membranes occurs, commonly known as water breaking! Premature rupture of membranes is a common complication during the perinatal period, which can lead to increased preterm birth rates, increased perinatal mortality rates, and higher rates of intrauterine infections and postpartum infections. Today, let's learn more about it together.

Premature rupture of membranes refers to the natural rupture of the membranes before labor. Premature rupture of membranes occurring before 37 weeks of gestation is also known as preterm (not full-term) premature rupture of membranes. Premature rupture of membranes is a dangerous signal for pregnant mothers, so once water breaking occurs, it is essential to go to the hospital immediately.
1. Infection. Infection and premature rupture of membranes are mutually causal, and infection is the most important cause of premature rupture of membranes.
2. Poor development of the membranes. There are multiple reasons; in addition to factors related to the membranes themselves, factors such as vitamin C deficiency, copper deficiency, and smoking in early pregnancy are related to poor development of the membranes, leading to decreased tensile strength of the membranes.
3. Cervical incompetence. Cervical incompetence is mainly manifested by relaxation of the internal cervical os, making it easy for the anterior amniotic sac to embed into the cervix, causing uneven pressure on the amniotic sac in that area, and being close to the vagina makes it prone to infection, thus causing membrane rupture.
4. Abnormal intrauterine pressure. Uneven intrauterine pressure is common in cases of disproportion between the fetal head and pelvis and abnormal fetal positions; excessive intrauterine pressure is common in twin pregnancies, polyhydramnios, severe coughing, and difficulty in defecation.
5. Trauma and mechanical stimulation. These can be divided into iatrogenic and non-iatrogenic categories. Non-iatrogenic causes are commonly seen in sexual activity during late pregnancy; iatrogenic causes include amniocentesis, repeated vaginal examinations, and membrane stripping for induction.

Once a pregnant mother discovers water breaking, she should immediately do the following:
1. Stay calm, especially family members should provide comfort to the pregnant woman, immediately call 120 or drive to the hospital. Regardless of whether the due date has arrived, do not take chances and go to the hospital immediately.
2. The pregnant mother should lie down immediately, elevating her hips to avoid excessive amniotic fluid leakage or the risk of cord prolapse. Maintain the elevated hip position while on the way to the hospital.
3. Upon arriving at the hospital, follow the doctor's guidance to avoid delaying treatment.

1. Adhere to regular prenatal check-ups.
Regular prenatal check-ups, regular prenatal check-ups, regular prenatal check-ups! It's important to say it three times.
2. Avoid vigorous activities in the mid to late stages of pregnancy.
During pregnancy, mothers should not overexert themselves in daily life and work. They can take appropriate walks outside but should avoid intense exercise, lifting heavy objects, or long periods of bumpy travel.
3. Appropriately reduce sexual activity.
Especially in the late stages of pregnancy, avoid sexual activity in the 10th month of pregnancy to prevent stimulating the uterus and causing premature rupture of membranes.
4. Scientifically and reasonably intake nutrition.
Consume more foods rich in vitamin C and trace elements like copper, as well as foods containing high-quality collagen, which help increase the tensile strength of the membranes.
Finally, a reminder to everyone, most pregnant mothers can safely go through their pregnancy, and the incidence of premature rupture of membranes is not high. Everyone should take preventive measures in advance, and once premature rupture of membranes occurs, do not panic. Follow the methods mentioned earlier and go to the hospital as soon as possible. The doctor will provide you with an appropriate treatment plan.
