The fierce 'late spring cold' is coming! Remember these few points...

The recent week has seen a fierce 'late spring cold', coupled with rainy weather, making the temperature unpredictable. The early spring season, where it can be warm one moment and cold the next, is a peak time for various epidemics and illnesses like colds, so everyone should pay attention.

After the harsh winter, we welcome the spring season when the grass grows and the orioles fly. However, before we can fully enjoy the bright spring sunshine, we suddenly face rainy and cold weather. People refer to this phenomenon of fluctuating temperatures as 'late spring cold'. The recent week of 'late spring cold' has been fierce, coupled with rainy weather, making the temperature unpredictable. This early spring season, which is characterized by fluctuating warmth and cold, is a peak time for various epidemics and colds, so everyone should pay attention.

'Late spring cold' period

The following four types of diseases cannot be ignored

'Late spring cold' easily induces

or exacerbates symptoms of osteoarthritis

As spring arrives, people tend to switch to lighter clothing and shoes too early, and some fashion-conscious individuals may wear pants and shoes that expose their ankles. This can easily lead to the joints being attacked by cold air. While cold weather does not cause osteoarthritis, it can worsen the symptoms, leading to soreness, numbness, and stiffness in joints such as the shoulders, elbows, waist, and knees.
It is recommended that you keep your joints warm and avoid cold stimulation. Arthritis patients should pay attention to warmth and can wear elastic warm knee and elbow supports. However, be careful not to wear them too tightly to avoid blood flow issues, which can lead to bruising and swelling. Additionally, do not wear them for too long to prevent disuse of the muscles and ligaments around the joints. Soaking your feet before bed can help promote blood circulation.

Respiratory diseases:

Cold, asthma, chronic bronchitis

Spring is a peak season for respiratory diseases, especially for the elderly and children who have lower immunity. When the body is stimulated by cold air, it can lead to a decrease in airway immunity and impaired function, resulting in increased airway reactivity, which can cause symptoms such as coughing, chest tightness, and even asthma and difficulty breathing.

It is recommended that individuals with weak constitutions or relevant medical histories pay attention to temperature changes, adjust their clothing appropriately, and practice moderate 'spring wrapping'. They should keep warm in the morning and evening, wear masks when going out, reduce visits to crowded places during the pandemic, and maintain personal hygiene.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases:

Coronary heart disease, acute myocardial infarction, stroke

The temperature difference between morning and evening in spring is significant, which can easily lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular issues. For example, it can cause acute myocardial ischemia, trigger angina, or even acute myocardial infarction. Additionally, it can stimulate the nerves that control vascular activity, causing sustained spasms of small arteries, leading to a sudden increase in blood pressure and increasing the risk of stroke.

It is recommended that the elderly, individuals with 'three highs' (high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol), and those with relevant medical histories reduce outdoor activities during cold weather and times to avoid sudden cold stimulation that may trigger cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Digestive system diseases:

Acute gastric spasm, gastric ulcer, gastroenteritis

Due to temperature changes, the internal environment and endocrine system of the body will also change, which may lead to an increase in gastric acid secretion, causing acute onset or recurrence of gastritis and gastric ulcers. Moreover, cold stimulation can easily cause capillary contraction, affecting gastric acid secretion and blood circulation in the stomach, leading to acute gastric spasms, gastroenteritis, and other conditions.

It is recommended that patients with relevant medical histories pay attention to warmth, especially in the abdominal area. In terms of diet, they should focus on warming and nourishing the stomach, drink more hot beverages, eat less cold food, and have meals on time. Ensure adequate sleep and avoid staying up late.
